Welcome to my website!
Here is what you need to know about me. I am committed to discovering God’s presence in the city. I want the church to be a place that figures out how to filter people in. Race, sex, orientation, and economic status should not be used a filters of exclusion. It is our differences that make life interesting, full, and fun.
I am a Denver-based writer, pastor and speaker. For 23 years I served as the Executive Director of DOOR, a faith-based network of cities that provides opportunities for service, learning, and leadership development within diverse neighborhoods. What did I like most about that job? A chance to be part of the solution. The opportunity to see and experience the world from other perspectives. New foods. Different ways of worshipping. A new and expanded understanding of what makes family.
Eventually I began to write about my experiences and feelings. This blog became a place to process my evolving world views, confess my faults, and struggle with my faith.
Today I am the Pastor at First Mennonite Church of Denver. What started as a simple blog site is now expanding. I will continue to blog. In addition, you will also find links to sermons, books that I am reading, projects that I support, ways to interact with my writing, and how to schedule speaking engagements.
I am a Green Card carrying Canadian, although I have spent my adult life in the USA. I was born in British Columbia, Canada. I earned a BA in Religious Education with an emphasis on pastoral ministry from Briercrest Bible College. Upon completion of my BA, I registered at Saskatchewan Technical Institute and earned a Truck Driver license. Eventually I moved to Fresno, California and attended Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary where I earned an MA in Theology.
I married my college sweetheart in 1986. Together we have raised two boys. Our oldest lives in Chicago and our youngest has followed my journey in reverse and now lives in British Colombia, Canada.
